The UNSW Solar Racing Team – Sunswift, is Australia’s top solar car team. The team designs and build solar-powered cars to race in the biennial World Solar Challenge – a 3000km race from Darwin to Adelaide with competitors from across the globe. The project is entirely student-run and non-profit, and has been operating since 1996. In that time, Sunswift has produced five solar cars and has established an enviable track record, winning many prizes and breaking numerous world records.
Sunswift is a team of students from multiple engineering disciplines who share the same vision of a world powered by renewable energy. Our team consists of the top engineering students from UNSW Australia – one of the most renowned universities in the world for its engineering program.
Sunswift is best known for our ground-breaking solar cars. We’ve competed in the biennial World Solar Challenge since 1996, and have broken numerous world records along the way, including the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) World Record for the fastest electric car over 500km on a single charge.
Sunswift is passionate about the potential of renewable energy and pushing our technology to the edge. Ever since our humble beginnings, Sunswift has been constantly raising the bar for sustainable transportation. Every day we inspire more people to realise what the future holds, and we couldn’t be more excited.
